The project area will begin in Parcel # 2691-3510-3510-0004 and end in Parcel
#2691-3530-0006. This ditch currently provides imgation water to approximately 125 acres of
field crops which are essential to the productivity of the dairy. A map of the ditch is provided in
Appendix C(photos are available upon request).
Hydrology and Water Rights
Water supplying the ditch originates from irrigation returns which flow into an unnamed
tributary and are then diverted into the Raymond Ditch. The Raymond Ditch adjudication #545
was recorded in Mesa County, CO on March 1, 1947. The priority for this adjudication is #789.
The full water right for this adjudication has been diverted ever year since the original recorded
date. Record with this is on file with the State Engineer's Office. See Appendix A.
Project Description and Alternatives
The Raymond Ditch is located in the Salinity Control area defined by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service of the US Department of Agriculture (NRCS). The NRCS has approved a
grant which will provide approximately 30% of the total projected cost. The benefits of the
reconstruction project will include:
1. Decrease of seepage which will subsequently improve the environment and decrease the
amount of salt that leaches into the Colorado River.
2. New head gates and punch plates will be installed to increase the efficiency of water flow
and measurements and to reduce the amount of debris in water.
