3. Improvements made to the existing ditch will prevent the need for new water ways and <br />minimize overall costs. <br />The following alternatives were considered: <br />1. No action which is considered unacceptable because the ditch is in need of improvement <br />to alleviate inefficiencies. Shifting soil combined with the age of the ditch has created excessive <br />seepage and evaporation. This upgrade is necessary also for efficient water use. <br />2. Participate in the NRCS Salinity Control Project was selected because of the grant <br />provided by NRCS which provides a cost share of approximately 30%. NRCS will be providing <br />the engineering services and oversight needed to complete the project. <br />Cost Estimate <br />The Mesa County Office of NRCS has prepared engineering designs and cost estimates for the <br />project. The NRCS Final Design report is available upon request. The NRCS cost report is <br />included in Appendix D. <br />The estimated cost of the Project is $95,000. The figure does not include the cost to remove the <br />existing ditch structure. <br />Implementation Schedule <br />The reconstruction project is slated to begin November 1, 2009 and to be completed in April 1, <br />2010. <br />
