The contractor also found an <br />exceptionally large number, between 40-45, squawfish in the same river <br />section between Cataract Canyon and Lake Powell. These squawfish were <br />between 1 1/2 and 6 lb fish. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resource <br />personnel working in this same river section found a 6 inch squawfish. <br />Various stages of striped bass spawning fish were found in this study. <br />Ripe males, ripe females and spent spawners. It looks as if the stripers <br />are spawning somewhere between Gypsum',Canyon and the upper end of Cataract <br />Canyon. No stripers were observed above Cataract Canyon. <br />Colorado squawfish movement and spawning in this area of the Colorado <br />River could not be determined. We do not know at this time where this <br />large a number of subadult-adult squawfish could have come from or whether <br />they reside year-round in this river section. <br />Disease work - There is no report on this phase of work. <br />Field Investigations <br />Field investigations are divided into: (1).Systematic sampling; <br />(2) Special studies; (3) Radio tracking, and (4) Establishing Flagstaff <br />office.
