-3- <br />CONDITIONS AND MEANS OF CILP URE <br />The last locality where significant numbers of humpback <br />chub were found was the Yampa River, sampled by Holden (2:21). <br />Knowing this, the sampling team from the Colorado Division of <br />Wildlife, Grand Junction Office, intensively sampled this area <br />in 1974 and no humpback or bonytail chub were found. <br />The only area where G. cy? was located was in Ruby Canyon <br />approximately 18 miles downstream from Grand Junction on the <br />Colorado River. <br />The method of capture waq gill nets. <br />Approximately 30 humpback chub were taken from pools 40-50 <br />feet deep. Chubs ranged in size from 200-350 mm. Of the eight <br />fish retained for identification, one was sent to Colorado State <br />University, another went to Utah State University, and the rest <br />were kept.in Grand Junction.
