D-3
I~4
3. Item 21, Reintroduce Colorado squawfish: This is a measure
which involves serious potential conflict with ongoing BLM management
programs. Before any reintroductions or transplants are carried
out, consultation with this office (and other agencies with manage-
ment responsibilities) should occur. Existing Cooperative Agreements
and Memoranda of Understanding should be adhered to.
4. Item 2113, Restoration of Unoccupied Sites: Selection of such
sites should take place only after habitat requirements of the
squawfish are more clearly established. Since stock reintroduction
would be a logical sequel to site restoration, site selection
should occur under the same interagency coordination specified for
Item 21.
Within the constraints and reservations mentioned above, BLM-Colorado
intends to assume a role of active participation in the overall recovery
effort for the Colorado squawfish. Our position of being the majority
landowner and responsible for multiple resource use and development within
this area requires it.
cc: Craig DM
Grand Junction DM
Montrose DM
WO (360)
~=
f~ . .= ~
~~iii`~"~ - -
i~ ~
1
1
1
