~. f .
L ~ J
Egg measurements were taken from six females reproduction.
Fungus Studies
Bioassays of formalin were performed in one gallon jars containing 3
liters of water. Eggs were treated at 1:600; 1:500; 1:400; 1:300; 1:200 for
10 and 15 minutes; 1:100; 1:75 and 1:50 for five and ten minute tests. The
eggs were held in the gallon jars for 24 hours after which eggs were checked
for viability. Two, three and four day old eggs were tested. All tests
were performed in triplicate,
Fungused eggs were placed in a Petri dish with numerous pieces of shelled
hemp seed. As soon as heavy growths of fungus were present, the infected hemp
seeds were treated with formalin at 1:600, 1:500, 1:400, 1:300, 1:200 for 10
and 15 minutes; 1:100, 1:75 for five and 10 minutes. The chemically treated
infected hemp seed were placed in another Petri with three uninfected pieces
of hemp seed and incubated for a two week period. The treated and untreated
hemp seed were observed to ascertain if the fungus had been killed on the
treated seed and if reproduction had taken place and zoospores had infected
the other hemp seed.
Fry Feeding
One thousand fry were placed in a 1" x 1" x 4" tank and offered a trout
starter diet. The fish were fed for two weeks, were counted and stocked in
a rearing pond. These fry were hatched in McDonald hatching jars. The fish
were offered food at least six times daily. Tanks were cleaned each day by
gently brushing all excess food on the bottom to t7ie lower end of the tank
and siphoning off. Any fry siphoned from the tank during cleaning were
netted and replaced in the tank. '
A total of 28,500 swim-up fry were caught when they swam out of six-
foot circular hatching tanks and placed in a 30" x 30" x 10' holding house
4
