One pair of fish served as centr.ols, two pair of fish were <br />injected with 2 mg carp pituitary per pound, and one pair of fish was in- <br />jected intraperitoneally with 800 IU chorionic gonadotropin. Each female <br />was reinjected the second and fourth day with the initial dosage. <br />Hormone Injections and Stripping <br />Four females were injected with 500 IU chorionic gonadotropin and four <br />females with a carp pituitary 2 mg/lb. Each fish was checked daily for ripe- <br />ness. When eggs were available they were stripped, fertilized and placed in <br />hatching equipment. These fish had been held in the holding house tanks for <br />about 17 days before injections were started. <br />Males were held in a seperate tank and injected with 300 and 500 IU <br />chorionic gonadotropin intermuscularly <br />Injections were made whenever the <br />males appeared to be 'losing fluidity. <br />Fish were seined in Pond C5 about 30 days after stocking and four gravid <br />females were moved to a holding house tank. One female was injected inter- <br />muscularly with 500 IU chorionic gonadotropin before being placed in a six <br />foot circular tank with 3 fluid males that were injected with 300 IU hormone <br />intermuscularly. <br />One female was injected with 300 IU hormone and one female was injected <br />with 500 IU hormone in the muscle. The last female was injected with 2 mg <br />carp pituitary per pound of body weight daily. A total of three injections <br />were given each female. The females were held in a holding house tank seper- <br />ate from males and were checked daily for ripeness. <br />Egg Hatching <br />I <br />Eggs were incubated utilizing five methods: McDonald jars; in the cir - <br />cular tank on rocks after natural spawning; in a circular tank after stripping; <br />on a fine mesh net suspended in holding house tank; and in a Heath incubator. <br />3 <br />
