TL were marked with a punch hole in the caudal fin so they could be recognized from reservoir fish
carrying spinal clips.
1994
Sampling was conducted as described for 1993 except for the sampling reaches. The upper reach
was changed to RK 156.8-152.8 because of poor navigability in the river. The lower reach was
restricted to RK 122.3-119.8, again because of poor navigability.
Electrofishing was conducted using the same equipment and procedure used in 1993. Sampling
occurred June 14-16.
Baited hoop nets were set in the upper reach from RK 167-165 and in the lower reach from RK 122-
120. Low river flows reduced navigability and restricted the extent of river where hoop nets could
be worked. The sampling procedure was as described for 1993 except bait was changed to
commercially prepared cheese bait and carp chunks to try to increase the catch. Set time was 24
hours.
Channel catfish were also captured in 1994 during the Interagency Standardized Monitoring
Procedure (ISMP), along-term monitoring project for Colorado pikeminnows of the RIP. ISMP
sampling protocol for electrofishing is to sample downstream along both shorelines in selected river
reaches. Sampling is conducted from RK 167.5-153 on the White River, which encompasses the
upper reach for this channel catfish study. The same boat mounted electrofishing equipment used
for the channel catfish study was used for ISMP. Sampling was conducted June 2-3. Effort was
measured by the VVP timer.
All channel catfish were weighed using the digital scale described previously. Otherwise, channel
catfish were measured for TL, examined for marks, and marked as in 1993. Other fish species were
not counted.
1995: 1996. and 1997
ISMP sampling was conducted on the White River on May 18-19, 1995, May 28-29, 1996, and May
14-15, 1997, using the same equipment and protocol described for 1994.
In 1995, the ISMP was expanded to monitor fish sympatric with Colorado pikeminnows. Sampling
was conducted August 9-10,1995, May 31,1996, and June 18,1997. The same sampling equipment
was used as for ISMP. Sample reaches were RK 167-164 and RK 159-156. The sampling protocol
was to electrofish downstream along the right shoreline for the first 1.5 km and along the left
shoreline for the second 1.5 km. Effort was measured by the VVP timer.
All channel catfish collected during I5MP and sympatric species monitoring were weighed on the
digital scale, measured for TL, and examined for an adipose fin clip. All fish species collected
8
