General
The total sampling effort from 1993 to 1997 was 4,431.8 hours (Table B-1).
The total catch of channel catfish from 1993 to 1997 by all sampling methods and in all waters was
682 (Table 1). A11404 channel catfish captured from the river were wild (unmarked) fish. Two
hundred and fifty-nine (259) of the reservoir channel catfish were stocked (marked) fish, 19 were
wild or unmazked fish (Table 3).
Table 1. Reservoir
The total number of fish (n=2,550) collected from Kenney Reservoir in 1993 and 1994 is shown by
species in Table 2. All fish taken alive were mazked and returned to the reservoir so recaptures could
be used to evaluate what proportion of the population was being sampled.
In 1993, the total catch of channel catfish in Kenney Reservoir by geaz was: gilUtrammel net = 96,
hoop net = 10, trotline = 1, and electrofish = 0,. Use of trotlines and electrofishing were
discontinued after 1993 because of low catches. The catch by gear in 1994 was gilUtrammel net =
112, hoop net = 1. All channel catfish caught in 1995-1997 were taken in gill or trammel nets.
A total of 278 channel catfish were caught from Kenney Reservoir (Table 1). The annual catch of
channel catfish was substantially lower in 1995-1997 but the effort was also greatly reduced (Table
B-1). The actual hours of effort for 1995 (288 hours), 1996 (192 hours), and 1997 (60 hours) were
40%, 26%, and 8% of the mean effort (720 hours) for 1993-94. Correspondingly, the 1995, 1996,
and 1997 catches were 27%, 13%, and 13% of the mean catch (110) for 1993-94.
The catch of channel catfish per gilUtrammel net hour dropped in 1995 and 1996, with the 1996
catch/effort only one half the 1993 and 1994 catch/effort. However the catchleffort in 1997 was the
9
