Five of the eight
~~ polymorphic loci expressed in muscle or fin tissue
~~~ exhibited variability in spawning adult Colorado
pikeminnow (Table 4). Allele frequencies were not
significantly different among samples from the
four river basins (P < 0.05). Uncommon alleles
were shared by Colorado and Yampa River fish
(GPI-2*cl) and by Colorado and Green River fish
I,,l i
(GPI-2 *a). The allele EST-2 *c was restricted to
i ~i~i, the Green River population and PEPB*a and
PEPB*c to the Colorado river population. Signif-
',I~'II'.' icant deviations from H-W equilibrium expecta-
,i~~,
r~~iii' lions were observed at GPI-1 * (xZ = 10.4, df =
~~ 1, P = 0.001) and PGAM-2* (XZ = 8.4, df = 1, P
= 0.004) in Colorado River samples and at GPI-
2* (x2 = 64.7, df = 1, P = 0.001) in Green River
samples. The mean FsT value (0.019) among the
four populations of spawning adults suggests min-
imal genetic divergence (Wright 1978).
Juveniles
Analyses of samples from juveniles were limited
to the Colorado River but did show that some ge-
netic variability and one uncommon allele are pre-
sent, that one deviation from H-W equilibrium
exists, that no gene frequency differences occur,
and that slight genetic differentiation exists. Six
loci were polymorphic in samples of juveniles
from the Colorado River (Table 5). No allele fre-
quency differences were found among the three
samples (P < 0.05), and one uncommon allele
(GPI-2*a) was present. The locus PGAM-2* de-
viated significantly from H-W equilibrium in the
Cataract Canyon sample (XZ = 13.1, df = 1, P =
0.010). The mean FST among the three samples
(0.049) indicated only slight genetic differentia-
lion.
Age-0 Fish
Analyses of samples taken from wild age-0 fish
indicated that genetic variability is present, that
gene frequencies among populations are similar,
that uncommon alleles and deviations from H-W
equilibrium exist, and that there is only slight ge-
netic divergence among populations. Seven loci
were polymorphic in samples of age-0 fish from
the Colorado and the Green rivers (Table 6). No
allele frequency differences were found among the
TAE
tein-cc
popul~
nificar
Juan,
cant c
0.01) ;
isk.
