The large volUlll6s of water and high

turbidities' made fish sampling difficult during high water periods.

Several types of colleoting equipment were required so that effective
sampling could be 1Il3.intained during all the seasonal stream-noW'

condi tions. A shortage of man power during the SUII1ll1Elr investigations

also placed a limitation on the types of fishing gear used.

Invertebrate collecting equipment

Bottom organisms, primarily aquatic inseot larvae, were

collected with a Surber square foot bottom-sampler and a hand soreen

ot number JO mesh. Samples were collected over bottoms varying from
silt and sand to rubble and rock. All bottom fauna were plaoed in
:J) oc glass vials containing a 75% alcohol solution.

Fish collecting equipment

Five general types of equipment \vere used to collect fish.
Each type had its limitations, and all were somewhat selective as to

species and size ot fish captured.
