Gila. Ph.D. thesis, Univ. of Mich., 1960: 174 pp., 10 figs.,
35 pIs.).
Richardsonius balteatus hydrophlo:c (Cope) - Redside shiner.
Ptychocheilus Lucius Girard - Colorado squawfish. This large fish,
often found with the humpback chub, is also rapidly disappear-
ing due to destruction of its habitat.
lotichthys phlegethontis (Cope) - least chub.
Rhinichthys osculus (Girard) - speckled dace. This is one of the
most widespread and variable fishes in western United States.
If subspecies are to be recognized, then the typical form (desig-
nated by Tanner, 1936, as Apocope oscula oscula) should not
be included in the Utah fauna. Named subspecies in Utah in-
clude R. o. adobe (Jordan and Evermann), of the Sevier River
drainage, and R. o. yarrowi (Jordan and Evermann) in the
Colorado River Basin.
Rhinichthys cataractae (Valenciennes) - longnose dace. This
species is known in Utah only from streams tributary to Utah
Lake and Great Salt Lake.
.Pimephales promelas Rafinesque - fathead minnow.
.Pimephales vigilax vigilax (Baird and Girard) - bullhead minnow.
This fish was accidentally introduced into the Sevier River
drainage on October 7, 1953 along with several thousand chan-
nel catfish received from San Angelo, Texas (letter of January
11, 1954, from M. J. Madsen). Whether it has become estab-
lished is not known.
Lepidomeda mollispinis mollispinis Miller and Hubbs - Virgin
River Eipinedace. This fish was listed by Tanner (1936) under
the name Lepidomeda vittata, but it has since been recognized
as a distinct species by Miller and Hubbs (1960).
Pltzgopterus argentissimus Cope - woundfin. This species and the
preceding belong to a unique group of minnows known only
from the Colorado River Basin (Miller and Hubbs, 1960). The
woundfin occurs only in the Virgin River drainage.

Catostomus ardens Jordan and Gilbert - Utah sucker.
Catostomus fecundus Cope and Yarrow - webug sucker. The
status of this sucker is still uncertain. Preliminary study of
the type specimens by tl\e junior author as well as by Carl L.
