12
Invertebrate remains comprised 71.79% of their diet (60.58 mg present in
84.21% of the fish), but were consumed only at Stratum VII. Fish were the
only items consumed at Stratum VI. Ephemeroptera were the only items consumed
at Stratum IX.
Gila sp.- Roundtail or Humpback Chub
YOY Gila were found at Strata D, F, and VI. They ranged in length
from 31 to 48 mm with a mean length of 37.32 mm. Ephemeroptera comprised
77.46% of the mean diet but were consumed only at Stratum VI by one fish.
At Strata D and F Diptera comprised 100% (one fish) and 57.71% of the diets
respectively. There were no significant differences among strata for
YOY Gila.
Juvenile Gila were found at Strata C, VI, and IX. They ranged in
length from 58 to 120 mm with a mean length of 90.72 mm. Invertebrate
remains comprised 66.51% of the mean diet (8.158 mg found in 36% of the
fish). Empty stomachs were found in 44% of the Juvenile Gila.
Juvenile Gila consumed significantly more terrestrial invertebrates,
invertebrate remains, Diptera, and Trichoptera at Stratum VI than at other
strata. In the first three food items, significant differences in the raw
values are likely due to extreme values in Stratum VI for the food items.
Non-endangered Species
Notropis lutrensis - Red Shiner
YOY N. lutrensis were found at Strata A, B, C, D, E, F, G, V, and VI.
They ranged in length from 15 to 29 mm with a mean length of 25.31 mm.
Ephemeroptera comprised 61.18% of the diet. At Stratum A seston and
Diptera were the major food items. At Strata B and V invertebrate remains
were the major food items. At Strata C and VI invertebrate remains and
Diptera were the major food items.
