RESULTS
Endangered Species
Ptychocheilus Lucius - Colorado squawfish
YOY Ptychocheilus were found at Strata A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and K.
They ranged in length from 22 to 59 mm with a mean length of 39.8 mm. Fish
comprised 85.63% of their mean diet (9.952 mg present in 30.70% of the
fish). At Strata B, F, and G, the major food item was invertebrate remains;
at Stratum K, the lone Ptychocheilus ate only Diptera. Fish were not
consumed at Strata B, G, or K. Empty stomachs were found in 19.8% of the
Ptychocheilus.
Ptychocheilus consumed significantly more macrofragments at Stratum A
than at other strata. They consumed more invertebrate remains at Stratum B
than at other strata. The mean weight of Diptera consumed at Stratum K
was greater than that consumed at other strata.
Gila robusta - Roundtail Chub
YOY G. robusta were found at Strata VII, IX, and X. They ranged in
length from 25 to 54 mm with a mean length of 39.58 mm. Invertebrate
remains comprised 54.16% of their mean diet (7.036 mg present in 59.65% of
the fish). Ephemeroptera comprised 38.37% of their diet (4.984 mg present
in 28.07% of the fish). Empty stomachs were found in 7.02% of the YOY
G. robusta.
YOY G. robusta consumed significantly more Diptera at Stratum X than
at Stratum IX and more Trichoptera at Stratum V11 than at Strata X or IX.
Juvenile G. robusta were found at Strata VI, VII, and IX. They
ranged in length from 55 to 109 mm with a mean length of 71.61 mm.
