throughout my studies. His observations of sedimentation process at the
field site were particularly insightful and his recommendations to use scour
chains in an overflow channel above the spawning site provided important
information to the study.
I also thank Ray Tenney of the Colorado River Water District,
Glenwood Springs for helping arrange funding for sediment data collections
in 1996. I enjoyed participating in Water District studies on the Yampa and
Green River, Colorado squawfish spawning sites. Mike Harvey and Bob
Mussetter inspired my pursuit of physical studies on razorback sucker. I
appreciate the time Ray, Mike and Bob spent in the Fall, 1996 examining
razorback sucker spawning and nursery habitat.
I dedicate this dissertation to my wife Nancy. She took care of the
home front while I spent considerable time in the field. Raising two boys is
no easy task with dad away from home much of the time. Nancy has kept
me going through some rough times and has always been there to help when
needed.
I also am grateful to my two sons, David and Tom, for helping with
field work over the years. It made being away from home a little easier
when my sons could join me in the field. I'm sure they enjoyed the
experience as well, as they met some real characters and were part of some
l
memorable field trips.
viii
