SITE 3 (RM 318.0)

Site 3 was a downstream oriented scour channel located on the right bank just upstream of Green River
Campground in Dinosaur National Monument (RM 318.0). This backwater had an area of 520 m2 with a
maximum depth of 2.8 ft at 1,900 efs. By January surface ice covered the entire backwater with an
average thickness of 0.5 ft. The mouth of the backwater was less than 0.5 ft deep allowing ice cover to
extend to the bottom, isolating the backwater from the mainchannel. In January a supersaturation of D.O.
was found, with concentrations averaging 16.3 mg/l (range 15.8 - 17.0). By February the backwater
mouth was free of ice and water was flowing through the backwater. This area was considered suitable
habitat throughout the winter.
