State demographer, based on 2000 Census results, except for Pueblo County, which is based on Water
Needs Assessment (GEI, 1998).
2. High projection. Includes only that portion of county within the SECWCD boundary.
3. Includes area served by Pueblo Board of Water Works and Pueblo West Metro District.
4. Likely lower due to population in areas outside of the SECWCD boundary.
N/A Not available, except on a county-side basis
Shaded cells indicate county population that will be used as basis for water demand forecasting.
3.1.3 Water Demand Estimates
Estimates of water demand for entities that could potentially be served by the Arkansas
Valley Pipeline were developed from several data sources:
• Responses to the survey form.
• Results of water demand estimates prepared in 1997 and 1998 for the Future Water
and Storage Needs Assessment Project prepared for the SECWCD (GEI, 1998).
• Population data from the State Demographer published following the 2000 Census
(obtained from the State Demographer's website).
• Population data published by the Southern Colorado Economic Development District
(SCEDD) on their website (http://www.scedd.com).
• Data from the 2000 Census (U.S. Census Bureau's website -
http://quickfacts. census.gov).
The following sections present population and water demand estimates organized by county
and by water provider within each county.
3.1.3.1 Pueblo County
The primary water provider in Pueblo County, outside of the Pueblo Board of Water Works
and Pueblo West Metro District, is the St. Charles Mesa Water District. Current population
in St. Charles Mesa is approximately 10,740 persons and there are 3,785 water connections
in the District. Current water demand is reported to be 2.2 mgd (2,460 acre-feet (ac-ft)/yr).
Future water demand in 2020 is projected by the District to be 3.5 mgd (3,920 ac-ft/yr).
