Comments on these
slides included:
Rod Kuharich - coordinated reservoir operations should be a supply side strategy.
Jeff Devere - On the demand side we need a pricing mechanism beyond M&I.
Rod - New storage should be added for both surface and ground water. In addition enlarging
existing storage should be discussed.
T. Wright Dickinson - I see an emphasis on transfers. With storage for agricultural we need to
address timing.
Kathleen Curry - There will be two bills that come out of legislation that apply to groundwater
supplies. What does optimum use of groundwater supplies mean?
Nichols - I think the word local should be in there somewhere in reference to groundwater supplies
Mike Shimmin - That word makes it murkier for me, what does `local' mean? I don't think that
word helps anything. These are topics for developing strategies.
Rod Kuharich - The problem we are facing is we don't have water to put anywhere.
Mike Shimmin - To talk about groundwater as a general topic is hard to do because it is different
than any other water source because it is so site-specific.
T. Wright - We need to focus on the optimum use of groundwater supplies. Denver needs to
adequately use its supplies before they go looking elsewhere for water.
Rod Kuharich - we are optimizing our groundwater resources as we are managing the resource well
by well. We examine how long to rest vs. pump and examine the location of the well related to the
rate of recovery. What T. Wright is talking about is using the resource before looking elsewhere.
Eric Kuhn - Should we look at sustainability of groundwater?
Mike Shimmin - Although the groundwater is usable in the Denver basin it is not renewable.
