April 7, 2008
Tyler Martineau told the Roundtable that the Needs Assessment Committee felt that there was a
lot of merit in the approach taken by the Arkansas Basin Roundtable. They recommended that
the Roundtable ask CDM to take the Gunnison Basin attributes and map them in the same
manner as the Arkansas Basin had done by grouping like attributes. The subcommittee could
then look at this information at their May meeting and present it to the Roundtable.
Tom Kenyon made a motion to forward the list of kayaking, rafting, lakes and reservoirs to
CDM for the purpose of creating a draft map to be vetted by the Roundtable at a later date. Ron
Shaver seconded, and the motion carried.
Steve Glazer made a motion to instruct CDM to map the non-consumptive recreational water
attributes to be vetted at a later date for review by the Needs Assessment subcommittee. Dennis
Steckel seconded and the motion carried.
Steve Glazer then requested that presentation of the Environmental Flow Evaluation Tool be
scheduled for the May meeting.
3. Presentation to Eastern Slope Basin Roundtables
The Committee made a presentation to the Metro Roundtable on March 12. The members
discussed their feelings about the visit. Hugh Sanburg summed it up as all three visits to the
Eastern Slope Basin Roundtables were generally valuable. He suggested proceeding with
visiting other Roundtables. It was also suggested that the presentation that had been prepared
could be used for educational purposes in the Gunnison Basin.
Hugh Sanburg made a motion to have Michelle Pierce contact other Roundtables in the Western
Slope and the Rio Grande, to see if they would be interested in seeing the presentation. Ron
Shaver seconded, and the motion carried.
Michelle Pierce mentioned that all three Eastern Slope Roundtables had all agreed to come for a
tour of the Gunnison basin. She mentioned that Eric Hecox could provide some funds to help
with these tours. It was agreed that Marc Catlin was the best person to put those tours together.
4. Education Liaison
Jeff Crane, a member of the IBCC Education Subcommittee, had been contracted by the CWCB
to develop a list of other parties interested in water, and requested the help of the GBRT
members to provide some names.
Additionally, Jeff offered to be the Gunnison Basin Roundtable Education Liaison to the IBCC.
However, it was recommended and agreed on that our liaison should be a member of the
Gunnison Basin Roundtable.
5. Letter from Eastern Slope Roundtables
The Roundtable members reviewed and discussed a response letter drafted by the Colorado
River District.
The Roundtable members had quite a few comments on the letter, and it was suggested that
Michelle Pierce forward the comments of the Gunnison Basin Roundtable to the Colorado River
District and request another draft letter be written.
4
