before being transported through a tunnel underneath Rocky Mountain National Park to <br />be sto~~ed in East Slope terminal reservoirs. <br />Nozthe~•n Water continues to look for ways to educate visitors to The Conservation <br />Ga~•dens and the Interpretive Area, and particularly those who come either when the <br />offices arc closed or dut•~ng business hours when staff is not available. To provide visitors <br />with info~•mation on The Conservation Gardens and the water-conservation meas~ires <br />demonstrated as well as an overview of the Interpretive Area and where Front Range <br />residents' water originates, Northern Water would like to introduce a cell phone audio <br />tour. <br />Visitors would be g~•eeted by a sign at the ent~•ance to The Conservation Gardens and the <br />Interpretive Area explaining they can take a guided audio tour of Northern Water's back <br />yard by calling a toll-ft•ee numbet•. Each "stop" on the toul• would be indicated with a <br />small sign at the lacat~on with a cell phone icon and a number. Visitors dust have to enter <br />the number an the sign to hear information about that stop. Callers do not pay to hear the <br />tour; they dust have to use their cell phone minutes. Since most have f~•ee night and <br />weekend minutes, this should not present a problem. <br />Northern Water would subscribe to a cell phone audio guide service called Guide by Cell <br />Inc. that provides the phone system to make the toua• possible. The service allows the <br />public to leave comments about the tour that Northern Water staff will review and also <br />provides real-time numbe~•s on how many people arc calling the tour, which stops they <br />are l~sten~ng to, how long they are spending on the tour, etc. <br />Not-thet-n Water would also be able to track usage in terms of days of the week and times <br />of the day to assess the popularity and success of the cell phone audio guide. <br />The CWCB Mission and Goals of the Cell Phone Tour <br />Northern Water believes public education is a crucial component of developing, <br />managing and conserving water supplies - concepts in the mission statements of both <br />Northern Water and the CWCB. <br />The g~•eater the public's understanding about Colorado's water ~- where ~t comes from, its <br />scarcity, its cast, etc.--the more likely citiLens are to embrace efficient water-use <br />behaviors. And as the devcIopment and management of water supplies within the state <br />continue to be sometimes-contentious issues, Northern Water believes ~t is imperative to <br />have a c~tizenr-y that rs educated enough about water in Colorado to understand the <br />necessary relationships between water infrastructure, conse~•vat~on and storage projects. <br />Northern Water believes a cell phone audio tour of its back yard is a unique opportunity <br />to educate visito~•s about many lessons the back yard teaches, including: <br />
