~ Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District
220 Water Avenue. Berthoud, CO 80513 · 970-532-7700 · fax 970-532-0942 · \Ivvvw.ncw.cd.or-g

Progress report for Water Efficiency Grant
June 1 - 50% completion
Cell phone audio tour of the Conservation Gardens at Northern Water

As of June 1, we had reached nearly all of our targets except one, which proved to a bit difficult to deal with.

We set up our service with the Guide by Cell company Wednesday, May 30. We found the technology to be
very user-friendly and were able to start recording prompts and testing out the system the very next day.

The script-writing went fairly smoothly. Brent, Brian and Jill met twice as a committee to discuss drafts of the
script. By June 1, we had the bulk of the script written with the understanding we could add bits and pieces to it
in the coming days.

We had contacted the four newspapers in which we plan to buy ad space to advertise the tour.

Our handouts were designed and printed in-house by June 1 (although we discovered a typo part way through
printing and had to redo them. A minor hitch, though).

The signs to mark the various tour stops have been the only problematic part of the process thus far. We had the
signs designed and prices bid out by June 1, but when we went to place the order with the sign company, they
confirmed a price that was substantially higher than what they had bid to us (and what we included in our grant
request.) We weren't comfortable spending $2,000 on the 5 x 7 signs until we did some research and tried to
find a better price. As of June 1, we were unsure what we would do in the interim since it would be impossible
to get the signs ordered, created and placed by our target date of June 15.

We have received a lot of positive feedback internally about the cell phone audio tour concept. We've publi-
cized using several internal communication vehicles (weekly and monthly newsletters, all-employee meetings,
etc.) We hope to gather several employees the week of June 11 and ask them to walk through the tour and give
us their feedback on both the content and how easy the tour is to use.

We still hope to officially launch the tour June 15, but that will require us figuring out a way to indicate each of
the stops without the signs we had planned to use.
