Rita Crumpton - it still puts a bullseye right on us.
Steve Acquafresca -Are they talking about research?
Jim Carter -First 6 months of meetings we heard from people passionate about streams drying up
during drought. So we got a feel for the whole basin.
A lot of goals set at these meetings. We need to know how much water there is.
There is a lot of information out there, so we don't have to reinvent the wheel.
Mel Rettig - We are starting to talk to other Roundtables.
Jim Pokrandt - It's a gathering of people and knowledge. We are getting ready to meet with other
Roundtables, i.e. Front Range. First a meeting about how we're going to meet.
Dick Proctor - Still a lot of unknown variables out there. That is why the consumptive needs study.
A number of conditional water rights -that could put additional demands.
The Front Range has their eye on our water. They are still building and these subdivisions
are dependent on water supply and the west slope is the target.
Audience Member -Doesn't it behoove us to decide what we need to do here, before they (the front
range) decide for us?
Dick Proctor -We're not waiting for them to decide first.
Carlyle Currier - We are drying up agriculture in Republican and South Platte basins and it
affects all of us statewide. A big part of our problem is what are our alternatives?
How do we continue to maintain what we have now? We're having to think in different
ways than we have traditionally thought so we can find solutions. We need to work for
solutions that are good for everyone.
Steve Ryken - to give a local perspective -we've had a lot of growth and acknowledge we live
in a desert and are very fortunate we have senior water rights, conservation, education
and storage to prepare us for the future. Water entities are actively involved in
conservation. To prepare for the future it comes down to storage.
Jim Carter - Water is market driven. If it is market driven in So years it would go over to
the front range. Away around that is storage. Nothing new has been added as far as
storage, but growth has been happening. Nobody gets excited about it until drought
occurs. Storage is t e answer.
John Redifer - Goals of the Roundtables out of the gate were educating members about projects and
getting everyone up to speed. We need to look at all projects and identify what will happen:
a) regardless of what we do and b) where the roundtables could actually have an impact.
Water as a private property right.
Audience Member - What is the law regarding private property rights?
John Redifer -Agricultural lands are drying up due to municipalities buying their water rights.
Audience Member - Do we need to change state law?
