The Charles Hansen Supply Canal
operates during the irrigation season to deliver water to the Cache la Poudre River mostly for
irrigation use downstream and in the basin. The Charles Hansen Supply Canal was historically
the only connection between Horsetooth Reservoir and the Cache la Poudre River prior to the
construction of the Pleasant Valley Pipeline. There are limited annual summary HydroBase data
available related to Charles Hansen Supply Canal.
Pleasant Valley Pipeline (no Structure ID)
The Pleasant Valley Pipeline is a j oint effort between the District and the cities of Fort Collins,
Greeley, and the Soldier Canyon Water Districts (which includes: East Larimer County Water
District, Fort Collins-Loveland Water District, and North Weld County Water District) to
increase water supply reliability. The project was completed in spring 2004.
The 8.5-mile buried pipeline carries Cache la
Poudre River water from the Monroe Canal to the
Fort Collins and Soldier Canyon Districts water
treatment plants during the summer. In winter,
flows are reversed, sending water from the Soldier
Canyon outlet at Horsetooth Reservoir to Greeley's
Bellvue Treatment Plant near the Poudre River.
The system is designed to reverse the flow
direction by gravity, without the need for pumps,
associated infrastructure and power costs.
12 of 17
.: ,,~
r .` {
~~~
d Wafer freolmenl plants.
Pleasant Vclley Ppc9ine
oVigmncni
Completed pipeline section
Munr~me Grawiry Lanal
