Capacity:
• Total Storage: 6,212 ac-ft
• Active Storage: Approximately 4,500 - 4,750 ac-ft
• Dead Storage: Less than 300 ac-ft. The Lower Latham Ditch Company described the
reservoir as having no dead storage.
• Area/Capacity Data: The area/capacity data in Table 1 were obtained from the
District 1 water commissioner. The dam crest elevation is 4,673.0 ft.
Table 1
Lower Latham Reservoir Elevation - Ca acity
Gage Height
(ft) Cumulative Capacity
(ac-ft)
2 4
4 59
6 260
8 665
10 1442
12 2510
14 3890
16 5646
16.6 6212
Reservoir Storage Management: Storage levels in Lower Latham Reservoir are measured
using a staff gauge.
Reservoir Seepage Information: Seepage from Lower Latham reservoir is not routinely
monitored. The Lower Latham Outlet is bifurcated below the reservoir (see Figure 1) to
collect seepage and direct it into the outlet.
HydroBase Data: Historical end-of--month contents are available for Lower Latham Reservoir
for the 1950-2002 period of record. There are often months where no data were collected,
which is displayed in Figure 3 as breaks in the time series (for example, 1986-1996
shows several breaks). The storage has been depleted to zero on three occasions,
including the failure of the dam spillway in 1973.
The Lower Latham Reservoir has undergone two enlargements from its initial decreed
capacity of 4,325.07 ac-ft: The first increased the decreed storage capacity by 1,430.21
ac-ft to 5,755.28 ac-ft. The second increased the decreed capacity by 2,180.89 to its
current decreed capacity of 7,936.17 acre-feet.
Lower Latham Ditch Memo.doc 6 of 12
