Figure 3: Lower Latham Reservoir Storage Contents
4) Lower Latham Ditch System
The Lower Latham Ditch Company owns two diversion structures that are operated together to
deliver direct flow and storage water to irrigators, Lower Latham Ditch (structure ID 0200834)
and Lower Latham Outlet (structure ID 0200891). Lower Latham Ditch headgate is located in
section 31, Township SN, Range 65W. The ditch conveys direct flow water from the river,
storage water from Lower Latham Reservoir via the Lower Latham Outlet, and may divert water
from Union Reservoir (structure ID 0503905) via St. Vrain Creek to augment out of priority
diversions. The ditch travels in a general eastern direction and terminates near Loloff Reservoir,
a small (decreed capacity of 144.62 AF), unaffiliated reservoir that is not actively used for
irrigation. Although Lower Latham Ditch passes close by, Loloff Reservoir is not a part of the
ditch system and any reservoir contributions to the ditch are from unquantified natural seepage.
At the terminus of Lower Latham Ditch begins the Lower Latham Extension Ditch. The
extension carries water approximately 10 miles to the Empire Intake Canal, which returns the tail
water to the South Platte River. The Lower Latham Ditch Company distributes 200 shares of
stock.
The Lower Latham Outlet collects seepage below Lower Latham reservoir and carries storage
water from the reservoir to Lower Latham Ditch and its smaller lateral ditches. The outlet
terminates at the south bank of the South Platte River.
Length: The length of Lower Latham Ditch is 21 miles from the head gate to its terminus at the
Empire Intake Canal. Lower Latham Outlet is 3 miles from the outlet of Lower Latham
Reservoir to the South Platte River. The length of the Lower Latham Drain is estimated at
1 mile by the Lower Latham Ditch Company.
Lower Latham Ditch Memo.doc 7 of 12
