Administration
Administration of the water rights associated with the District involves interaction with the
Water District 1 Water Commissioner and the Division 1 Engineer. The Superintendent for the
System is more often in contact with these individuals during periods of storage.
OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
Jackson Lake Reservoir
The Jackson Lake Reservoir and Irrigation Company diverts, stores and make releases upon
request for the numerous entities that have ownership in the reservoir. The Company's service
area extends from the Riverside Irrigation District headgate approximately 12 miles upstream
from the Jackson Lake Inlet to the Lower Platte and Beaver Canal headgate approximately 22
miles downstream from the Jackson Lake Outlet.
The sequence of water rights calls affecting storage in the System in a typical year is as follows:
• The Company begins to fill the reservoir under its storage right on November 1st, after
releases have stopped.
• The Company will make storage diversions for approximately two months to fill to a
gage height of 29.5.
• The reservoir will again store in March or early April to reach a full reservoir at a gage
height of 30.0.
• Users begin to request releases of their storage water during the middle of May
depending on the weather. The storage releases will continue through the summer to the
middle of September. It is typical for the users to utilize all of their allotment, resulting
in an empty reservoir.
• Typically the Company can utilize the reservoir's refill right during a portion of June and
July.
Fort Morgan Canal
The Fort Morgan Reservoir and Irrigation Company diverts and delivers irrigation water to users
within the canal's service area. The canal's service area is bounded by the South Platte River
and Upper Platte and Beaver Canal on the north, Pawnee Power Plant to the east, and Fort
Morgan Canal on the south and west sides.
The sequence of operations for Fort Morgan Canal is as follows:
Fort Morgan begins to make direct flow diversions in April and May at full canal
capacity.
During June, July, August, or September, Fort Morgan will request Jackson Lake
Reservoir releases to supplement direct flow and meet water demand.
The direct flow right will typically be out of priority for portions of July and August,
providing for the delivery of only Jackson Lake Reservoir release water.
