For example, water diverted through the Manassa No. 3 headgate can and is
delivered to all lands in the Company's service area (and is comingled with water diverted
through the Company's other two ditches). However, water diverted through the Manassa
Westfield Ditch, which is lower in elevation, can only be delivered to lands lying to the east of
the Westfield Ditch.
Water Right Changes, Transfers and Agreements
As noted in the footnotes to Table 1, the Company has engaged in several efforts to purchase new
water rights or move diversion points for its existing water rights to better service irrigated lands.
Guadalupe Main Ditch: The Company purchased 29.79 cfs of the number one priority of the
Guadalupe Main Ditch, and changed the diversion point for this amount to the Manassa
No.3 Ditch in 19??.
Heads Mill Ditch: The Company purchased 41 cfs of the number two priority of the Heads Mill
Ditch. Historically, the Company used the full amount of the No.2 priority under an
agreement with the Conejos Cooperative Roller Mills and Manufacturing Company
(owner of the right). In recent years, 30 cfs of the water has been diverted at the Heads
Mill Ditch, siphoned under the Conejos River, and dumped into the Manassa No.3 Ditch
(11 cfs is taken at the Manassa No. 3 headgate). The Company has also periodically
taken this 30 cfs of water through the Manassa No.3 headgate with approval from
Division 3. In pending Case No. 97CW025, the Company is seeking permanent approval
for using the Manassa No.3 as an alternative diversion point for the 30 cfs.
Serviette Ditch: The Company purchased eight shares (8.199 cfs) of the number five priority of
the Serviette Ditch. The diversion point for this water was changed to the Manassa No.3
headgate in 19??.
Santiago Ditch: The Company purchased 13.90 cfs of the number sixteen priority of the Santiago
Ditch. The diversion point for this water right was changed to the Manassa No.3
headgate in 19??.
La Vega de La Serviette Ditch: The Company purchased 6.75 cfs of number sixty-seven priority
of the La Vega de La Serviette Ditch. The diversion point for this water right was
changed to the Manassa No.3 headgate in 19??.
Cruz Chavez Ditch: The Company purchased 1.00 cfs of the number sixty-eight priority of the
Cruz Chavez Ditch. The diversion point was changed to the Manassa No.3 headgate in
19??
C:Acdss\MANDitch.doc Manassa Land and Irrigation Company Interview June 21, 1999 -Page 3 of 7
