Alternate Points:
• Manassa (73.6 cfs) -Priority No.48: Thirty five (35) cfs may be diverted at
Manassa No.3 headgate after the first 38.6 cfs has been diverted at the Priority
No. 48 headgate. This change was completed in 19??
• Manassa No.2 (23.25 cfs) -Priority No.84: Full priority may be taken at the
Manassa No. 3 headgate. This change was completed in 19??
Drainage Water Rights
In addition to the water rights listed in Table 1, the Manassa system is drained by two drains
north and east of lands served by the Manassa Eastfield Ditch. The users of these systems are
able to use water by gravity flow out of the drains. The Company owns the Manassa Drainage
Ditch which has a decreed right for 15.3 cfs.
Diversion Structures
There are three diversion points for water diversions by the Company. These include:
• Manassa No.3
• Manassa Westfield
• Manassa Eastfield (aka Manassa, and Manassa No.2)
A map showing the locations of these diversion points is provided as Attachment 2.
The Manassa No. 3 Ditch is the primary diversion point for the Company. This diversion
structure is located on the North Branch just downstream of U.S. Hwy 285 and approximately
one-quarter mile downstream of the "core" where the north and south branches of the Conejos
River diverge. The majority of the surface water diverted by the Company is taken through this
structure because it is the highest diversion point and allows the most flexibility in making
deliveries to share owners.
The Manassa Westfield diverts water approximately four miles downstream of the Manassa No
3, just south and west of the Town of Manassa. The Manassa Eastfield diverts water
approximately one mile downstream from the Westfield headgate.
The Company may also divert water through the Heads Mill Ditch. The Company owns 41 cfs of
the Heads Mill water right. In an earlier change, 11 cfs of this right was changed to the Manassa
No. 3 as an alternate point of diversion. In a pending case (Case No. 97CW025), the Company is
seeking an alternate point of diversion for its remaining 30 cfs to the Manassa No. 3.
As described above, the Company has alternate points of diversion at the Manassa No. 3 headgate
for: 35 cfs of its No.48 priority and all (23.25 cfs) of its No.84 priority. Water transferred from
other ditches (Guadalupe Main, Heads Mill, Serviette La Vega de la Serviette, Cruz Chavez, and
Santiago) are decreed for diversion at the Manassa No.3 headgate.
Capacity Problems
There are no significant problems or concerns related to diversion or carrying capacity of the
Manassa Ditch system, although higher flows at the ends of the East and West Lone Star laterals
C:\cdss\MANDitch.doc Manassa Land and Irrigation Company Interview June 21, 1999 -Page 4 of 7
