Currently, program ModGUI is not used to automatically generate command files. This
philosophy will continue in the current development effort. Development of enhancements to
ModGUI will use Visual Basic. The program will remain modular and allow flexibility in use of
individual packages. Generation of PM-DIAMOND control files will be added to ModGUI, but
due to PM-DIAMOND running under aUNIX/LINUX emulator, direct control of PM-
DIAMOND out of ModGUI will not be incorporated. Two meetings are anticipated for this
task.
A technical memorandum documenting the process and programs that were developed or
modified for this task will be prepared. This memorandum will include comprehensive user
documentation illustrating application of the package and underlying computational
algorithms. Example data sets, with control files, input, output and log files will be included.
Full source code and an installation CD with all necessary libraries will be included.
Copyrights for these programs will reside with the State. Source code will include
documentation in embedded comments that will be provided on the CD, along with
documentation of all information necessary to re-compile the applications. Third party
development libraries may be used for some functions within these programs, and these will
also be identified. This deliverable is anticipated to be less than ten pages in length, plus
electronic attachments.
2.5 Other Development Tasks
Some modification or verification of program compatibility with the modified processes will be
conducted under this task.
The program StateDGI is compatible with other DMIs and does not require any significant
modifications for use in the revised process, other than eliminating the allocation of well
production intervals to model layers. The State may need to have this application re-coded in
an updated computer language by other contractor teams, since this program is written in the
scripting language "Avenue", which is no longer supported in the current version of ArcGIS
used by the State. The current module in StateDGI that provides information to allocate well
production across different model layers will not be required because the Multi-Node Well
package available in MODFLOW-2000 will provide this functionality. The Modeling GIS
Repository will include coverages identifying well production zones. These may need to be
estimated if these data are not available in well permit records. GMS will include wells and
screen intervals in the conceptual model. All other functions and file formats will remain the
same as in the current version of StateDGI to maintain compatibility with StatePP.
Program StatePP currently processes flow components that are generated by program StateCU,
and prepares MODFLOW package files for the recharge, evapotranspiration, well and drain
packages. This program is generalized, so it is adaptable to any basin. The State has recently
updated this program to be compatible with MODFLOW-2000, so only minor, if any, revisions
to this code are anticipated. If other flow components, such as reservoir seepage, become
available from program StateCU, then minor modifications to program StatePP will be
incorporated to add this information to the recharge package files. The function of the program
AGG will be incorporated into StatePP.
