maintained in a conceptual model format in GMS to provide flexibility in model
implementation and to decrease complexity in the streamflow routing (SFR1) DMI. A tool will
be developed to assemble individual polyline segments into a single ordered polyline within
ArcGIS, based on the name field. This processing step is only necessary during the conceptual
model development, and will change infrequently.
The new DMI will incorporate the functionality of programs build and ModEX. It will be
developed using Visual Basic for interface elements, linked with FORTRAN code for
computational tasks, including routines that are currently included in ModEX. Existing Perl
routines may be adapted when the modifications to remove RGDSS-specific features, being
undertaken by the State, are complete. This new DMI will merge stream geometry and
property information with time series flows into stream flow routing package files.
This task will produce a new DMI that will:
• generate SFR1 package control files,
• generate control and log files summarizing operations,
• utilize data from the Modeling GIS Repository,
• conduct error checks similar to the current RGDSS process, and
• generate support files to allow post-processing of cell-by-cell flow files to determine the
water budget for specific stream reaches
Four meetings are anticipated for this task. A technical memorandum documenting the process
and programs that were developed or modified for this task will be prepared. This
memorandum will include comprehensive user documentation illustrating application of the
package and presenting underlying computational algorithms. Example data sets, with control
files, input, output and log files will be included. Full source code and an installation CD with
all necessary libraries will be included. Copyrights for these programs will reside with the
State. Source code will include embedded comments that will be provided on the CD, along
with documentation of all information necessary to re-compile the applications. Third party
development libraries may be used for some functions within these programs, and these will
also be identified. This deliverable is anticipated to be less than ten pages in length, plus
electronic attachments.
2.4 Process Integration and ModGUI Modifications
Overall integration of the enhanced process will be conducted under this task, including minor
development activities on support packages for generation of model graphics. Program
ModGUI serves as the central component to organize workflow in the RGDSS data centered
modeling process including editing of control files, managing execution of individual packages
and examining log files. This central role for ModGUI will continue in this proposed modeling
process for the SPDSS, with enhancements recommended to manage new or modified DMIs
including:
• modifications to StatePP (including the integrated program AGG function),
• the new stream process,
• data transfer from the Modeling GIS Repository, and
• to facilitate post-processing of model files.
