The model calibration process will be enhanced by utilizing the capabilities of automation tools,
such as PEST, or the internal tools within MODFLOW-2000. These tools will be managed using
capabilities that already exist in GMS, thus, no significant program development is anticipated
at this time. This task will verify and test the capabilities of GMS and document the procedures
for use of PEST with the modified DMIs. Some minor development may be required to extract
calibrated parameter information from model files and migrate this information back to the
Modeling GIS Repository for reporting. One meeting is anticipated for this task.
The deliverable from this task will document the results of evaluations and include necessary
modifications to existing documentation of programs. Any newly developed programs will
include source code and user documentation. This deliverable is anticipated to be less than 5
pages of text, plus electronic deliverables.
3.0 Schedule and Cost Estimate
This task is anticipated to require six months to complete. Development of individual packages
will proceed in a parallel manner, where appropriate. The costs will be closely monitored
during the development process. Modifications to ModGUI will lag other program
development in order to avoid potential re-work as programs are finalized. The cost for the
tasks identified in this memorandum will not exceed the $61,000 that is allocated in the Phase 3
contract. The estimated costs for each of the development tasks are provided below, with 54
hours anticipated for Task 50.1, 275 anticipated for Task 50.2, 174 hours anticipated for Task
50.3 and 63 hours anticipated for Task 50.4.
Task Code Description Cost Estimate ($)
50.1 Modeling GIS Repository and Query
Development 6,000
50.2 Stream Flow Routin Pro ram Development 30,000
50.3 Process Integration and ModGUI
Modifications 18,000
50.4 Other Development Tasks 7,000
Total 61,000
Summary
An implementation plan for enhancements to the data centered modeling process is presented
that identifies four areas. These include:
• Development of a Modeling GIS Repository to manage data that is not currently
maintained in the State GIS repository or HydroBase
• Preparation of stream flow routing files
• Enhancement of workflow management
• Verification of functionality of StateDGI and StatePP, that manage stress-related
packages including recharge, evapotranspiration, wells and drains and enhancement of
the model calibration process
