INTRODUCTION
The goal of this project was to remove an obsolete stn~cture, restore the area to a
naturally flowing river, create safe recreation, and facilitate fish migration.
NFRIA received approval for $5,000 from the the Colorado Watershed Protection Fund
grants program, administered by Colorado Water Conceivation Board (CWCB) for dam
removal and water control. The scope of work was revised to encompass equipment
mobilization and staging area, acquisition and transportation of large diameter boulders,
and acquisition/planting of willows and removal of non-natives.
PROJECT GOALS, OBJECTIVES, and ACTIVITIES
Planned and Actual Milestones, Products and Completion Dates
TASK 1: De»iolitios~ of old s~tr~rctz~re ay~d ~~~ater cont~°ol
Products: Dam is removed and pieces are buried deep for
bai~lc stabilization.
Cost: $25,008. There are four new rock stn~ctures to protect banks from
erosion, provide habitat for aquatic life, and create fun hydraulics for boaters. The
regraded, revegetated floodplain will also allow flood energy to dissipate safely
during high water over smooth banks.
Cost to date: $10,610. Again, equipment and salaries were donated in-kind by the
US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Completed: Febn~ary 2006
