Section Descri tion
D H drooraphs of Wells with Autumn Water Level Measurements
E Hydrographs of SPDSS Monitoring Wells with Continuous Data
LoaQers
F Monitoring Well Surve Results
1.0 Si-Annual Water Level Data
An objective of Task 39 is to collect autumn groundwater level data in the SPDSS study area
and download water level data from the data loggers installed in the SPDSS monitoring wells,
which are in both alluvial and bedrock aquifers.
1.1 Autumn Water Level Data Collection
The DWR measures water levels in a network of wells located throughout the Denver Basil
bedrock aquifers and the alluvial aquifers of the South Platte River Basin. The DWR measures
water levels in tlne spring and fall for the alluvial aquifer along the main stem of the South Platte
River. In contrast, the DWR measures water levels only in the spring for the alluvial aquifers of
some of the Designated Basins and in the bedrock aquifers of tlne Denver Basin. Therefore, the
focus for this task was to collect autumn water level measurements for wells in the Denver
Basin bedrock aquifers and tlne alluvial aquifers of some of tlne Designated Basins. In addition,
for Phase 4, water levels were collected in the alluvial aquifer of the Poudre River Basin.
The first step during Phase 2 for Task 39 was to identify a set of candidate bedrock wells of the
269 wells that had been measured by the DWR since 2000. Using the Phase 1 Task 42.2 bedrock
aquifer configuration data and well completion information, 109 of these wells were determined
to be completed in a single bedrock aquifer. These 109 bedrock wells were supplemented with
11 alluvial wells from Designated Basins to bring the total list of wells to be measured in the fall
of 2004 to 120 wells. These wells were selected to provide a good spatial distribution of
measurements within each aquifer. Tlnis group of wells was targeted in all subsequent pleases.
If a well could no longer be measured, it was removed from the target list for subsequent years
(e.g. if well owner denied access to well, it was not measured in subsequent years). The
exception to the initial target group of 120 wells is the addition of 11 alluvial wells owned by the
City of Thornton in the Cache La Poudre P`iver Basin. These 11 wells were added to the target
set in Phase 4.
A total of 83 of the 120 wells were successfully measured in tlne fall of 2004 for Phase 2. During
Phase 2 data collection, eight wells lead issues that caused them to be removed from tlne list of
Phase 3 wells to be measured: two wells were found to be capped, one well could not be found,
one well no longer existed and four wells were not visited due to weather constraints. The total
number of wells targeted for measurement in Phase 3 therefore was reduced from 120 to 112,
and 90 well measurements were obtained in Phase 3.
From this list of 112 candidate wells, the total number was reduced to 104 for Phase 4 activities
due to the following Please 3 occurrences at eight wells:
SPDSS Phase 4 Task 39 Technical Memorandum-Final
O~i20%2008
