Section 1
Introduction
1.1 Work Plan Organization
This work plan is organized into the following sections:
^ Section 1 presents an introduction and overview of the SPDSS Phase 3 field
program goals.
^ Section 2 summarizes and describes the data collection priorities for the proposed
field program.
^ Section 3 describes new field activities that will be performed under Phase 3.
^ Section 4 describes the reports that will be prepared following completion of the
field program.
^ Section 5 contains a list of references cited in this Field Study Work Plan.
1.2 Introduction
This document presents the Field Study Work Plan design, Task 33.2 of Phase 3 of the
South Platte Decision Support System (SPDSS)., It supersedes the previously
submitted Phase 2 Task 33 Field Study Work Plan for Alluvial and Bedrock Well
Installation (CDM 2004), since most of the field activities undertaken in Phase 2 have
been completed and are no longer applicable in Phase 3. The two objectives of the
Phase 3 Field Program are:
^ To perform streambed conductance testing at up to 301ocations to quantify the
hydraulic properties of streambed materials for the main stem South Platte River
and select tributary channels
^ To measure water levels in up to 109 bedrock and 38 alluvial aquifer wells in the
autumn, and 48 alluvial aquifer wells in the spring
These field activities will aid in characterization of surface water and groundwater
interactions and to characterize post-growing season groundwater conditions. These
tasks are described in the Scope of Work (SOW) submitted to the Colorado Water
Conservation Board (CWCB) on January 10, 2005 (CDM 2005) and further detailed in
Section 3.
For the purposes of the SPDSS field program in Phase 3, the groundwater study area
includes the bedrock aquifers of the Denver Basin and its overlying alluvium, and the
alluvium of the main stem of the South Platte River and the mouths of its significant
tributaries from approximately Chatfield Reservoir to the Nebraska State Line
`~ ~
1-1
FINAL SPDSS T33 WORK PLAN &3-OS.DOC
