SPDSS Memorandum
Final
To: Ray Alvarado and Ray Bennett
From: Riverside Technology, inc., Amnon Nevo and Tim Martin
Subject: SPDSS, Spatial System Integration Component, Subtask 99.2 -Modify and Maintain
GIS Tools (Memo 2 of 2)
Date: 28 September 2006
1. Introduction
This memorandum summarizes activities under Task 99 -GIS Support and Data Maintenance, Subtask
99.2 -Modify and Maintain GIS Tools. The activities under this Subtask are described in RTi's Scope of
Work for SPDSS Phase 3 Spatial System Integration Component. As described in the Scope of Work
(page 9) the objective of Task 99 is the following:
Provide GIS support and data maintenance for the SPDSS project during Phase 3. Modify,
enhance and maintain GIS tools developed under SPDSS for efficient data extraction, mapping
and for data dissemination and access.
Also described in the Scope of Work (page 10) is the approach for this Subtask that includes:
Modify ArcCDSS to accommodate State requirements during Phase 3 and update the associated
documentation.
Based on results of the System Integration Contractor's recommendations, and through meetings
and discussion with the State, the recommended StatelMS (now known as CDSS Map Viewer)
upgrade features will be defined. These are likely to include a thinner client, larger map, map
tips, pop-up windows, and metadata for statewide layers. Prepare a brief requirements document
for approval by the State. Redesign StatelMS as necessary to incorporate the defined
requirements, implement and test the features.
2. ArcCDSS Modifications
Based on recommendations and discussions with State personnel, the following changes were made to the
Shapefile Builder tool of the ArcCDSS extension:
Upgraded from ArcGIS version 8.3 to version 9.1.
The ArcCDSS toolbar was moved from ArcMap to ArcCatalog because ArcCatalog is more
useful than ArcMap in managing the shapefiles created by ArcCDSS and because the Shapefile
Builder does not make use of the map view in ArcMap.
A projection file (.prj) is generated for each Shapefile. This file defines the projection of the
Shapefile and is used in applications that project on the fly such as ArcMap.
The ID_LABEL_6 ID_LABEL_7 fields are no longer created and added to attribute tables that
have a WD and ID columns. Such tables have the ID_LABEL_7 column because it is created by
the HydroBase stored procedure that is called by ArcCDSS.
Fixed various minor bugs and improved error handling and messaging.
Updated the user manual with the above changes.
Page 1 of z ~RlYerslde Technology, lnc.
Wale.• Aesourre.s Ere~rnce: ~nq un~i Cn~sutlmg
