personnel checked linework and included crop type and activity on most of the lands. An additional coverage
describing a unique identifier for each parcel of land (GEOLOC #) was produced from these data.
Land Use
The CRDSS Spatial Database has raster and vector maps for the entire Western Slope. The land-use coverages
contain United States Geological Survey Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) data. The Land Use coverage describes
political units, hydrologic units, census county sub-divisions, Federal land ownership, and State land ownership. The
coverage is compiled to portray the Level II categories of the Land Use and Land Cover classification system
documented by Anderson et al. (1976).
Reservoir (Dam) Locations
The CRDSS Spatial Database has a site map and labels. This coverage describes the dam and reservoir locations and
related engineering data for reservoirs. The source of these data are dbase files from the Division of Water
Resources, State Engineer?s Office in Greeley through Jim Dubler, Dam Safety Engineer.
Transbasin Diversion Locations
Transbasin diversion locations include a site with labels. This coverage includes the names and locations of diversion
sites for which water leaves a given river basin. This coverage was developed by the State Engineer?s Office (SEO).
Diversion Structure Locations
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains one site map with labels describing the location and name of diversion
structures.
Key Structures for Water Rights
For each river basin The CRDSS Spatial Database has site and label maps to show all structures that are used by the
water rights modeling component of CRDSS.
Climate Station Locations
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains site maps for temperature, precipitation, snow course, solar radiation, and
wind-run. Each of these site location coverages has an associated label map. The records for some of these data types
can be obtained from the CRDSS Informix database using the VDB Interface.
Soils
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains a raster and vector map for showing the available water holding capacity
(AWC). There is also a raster and vector map for the soil types. Spatial data for soils were collected through the
Soils Department at CSU. This is part of the State Soil Geographic Database (STATSGO) data produced by the Soil
Conservation Service (SCS). The AWC was derived from the soil characteristics listed in the STATSGO database.
Solar Radiation
The CRDSS Spatial Database has two vector and two raster solar radiation coverages that show different zones of
radiation. The coverages describe average daily solar radiation for the Western Slope of Colorado. The cover-type
descriptions are given in megajoules per square meter. These coverages were digitized from maps provided by the
Colorado Climate Center.
Page 3
01/03/97 2.03-
01- Lange
