Evaporation (Class A Pan)
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains a vector and raster map that represent the evaporation during May through
October from a Class A pan situated in an open area subject to representative humidities and wind exposures, i.e.,
not protected by shelter-belt trees or buildings and not located in a heavily irrigated field. The data for the analysis
are primarily observed evaporation measurements from Class A pans adjusted to the period 1956-1970. There is also
a vector and raster map with the coefficients for conversion to a free-water surface evaporation rate.
Gross Lake Evaporation Free Water Surface from NOAA
The CRDSS Spatial Database has a vector and raster map that represent growing season (May through October) and
annual evaporation, respectively, from a shallow lake or a FWS. The data in this coverage are primarily estimated
from observed pan data and is considered by many hydrologists to be equivalent to potential evaporation expected
from a natural water surface or very wet soil. This coverage was digitized by RTi from NOAA maps showing
Evaporation from free water surfaces.
Public Land Survey System
The CRDSS Spatial Database has one raster map that displays the township and range locations of the Western
Slope of Colorado. There are also two vector maps, one that contain the township and range boundaries and one that
contains the township, range, and section boundaries for the Western Slope of Colorado. The source of these
coverages is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Digital Line Graph DLG data. These data were obtained
by RTi.
Key Structures for Irrigated Lands
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains eight raster and vector maps that show the identification number of the main
irrigation structures used in StateMod. The source of the coverages is the State Engineering Office of Colorado as
described earlier in the irrigated parcels of land category.
County Boundaries
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains a vector map, a raster map and labels with county names for the Western
Slope of Colorado. This coverage was obtained from the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA).
Stream Gauge Locations
The CRDSS Spatial Database contains one site map with labels in the VDB Interface to display the location of
stream gauges.
Precipitation (Isohyetal maps)
Average precipitation intensity zones in inches (one vector and one raster map) are used for the CU Model.
Procedures and data used in the preparation of this map are contained in the report ?Analysis of Colorado Average
Annual Precipitation for the 1951-1980 Period? published by the Colorado Climate Center. This map was digitized
by IDS Group, CSU.
2.3Spatial Database Capabilities
For a complete description of the capabilities of the VDB Interface or the CU Model please see the CRDSS Users?
Manual. This section is a general listing of the features and capabilities of these tools for accessing the CRDSS
Spatial and Informix databases.
Page 4
01/03/97 2.03-
01- Lange
