The Association has applied for an additional <br /> <br />2,000 acre-feet of such water from the Southeastern Colorado <br /> <br />Water Conservancy District. The Association hopes to be <br /> <br />able to store some or all of these flows in Lake l~redith, <br /> <br />in Reach 3, or elsewhere. To the extent that the Associa- <br /> <br />tion does not store such water, it will take credit for <br /> <br />the amount to which it is entitled when the return flows <br /> <br />are in the river. It may also use such flows in a recharge <br />program and utilize the amount so stored. <br /> <br />r--- (c) Phreatophyte salvage. The Association has <br /> <br /> <br />( a contract right to use the water salvaged by Spady Brothers <br /> <br /> <br />by the removal of phreatophytes, a matter now pending <br /> <br /> <br />the Water Court in Case No. W-39l0. In addition, <br /> <br />Association member Homer Osborne owns property in Reach 4 <br /> <br />phreatophytes have been cleared, resulting in a <br /> <br />salvage of approximately 2,000 acre-feet according to the <br /> <br />'preliminary calculations of the Association's engineers. <br />I <br />Other phreatophyte salvage also may be claimed. <br />L- <br /> <br />(d) Possible purchases of return flow from trans- <br /> <br />mountain sources other than the Frying Pan-Arkansas Project. <br /> <br /> <br />The Association has made preliminary contacts with Colorado <br /> <br />Springs, the developers of water from the Black Squirrel <br /> <br />Basin and those entitled to use water from the Twin Lakes <br /> <br />system through the Colorado Canal. <br />(el The Association is exploring the use of four <br /> <br />high-capacity wells owned by one of its members in Reach 3 <br /> <br />to deliver water to senior ditches or into Lake Meredith, <br /> <br />where it might be stored for Subsequent release. <br /> <br />(f) The Association and its engineers will inves- <br /> <br />tigate the possibilities of utilizing other wells to deliver <br /> <br />water into the surface stream or into particular ditches. <br />
