Intentionally
and responsibly producing useful quantities of additional
streamflow during the demonstration period would help

ease existing water salinity problems, especially

in the lower Colorado River and Mexico, and the current

energy crisis. Benefits from the demonstration project

water augmentation will be integrated into the resources

mangement and development picture prior to 1990.

Intentionally producing' substantial amounts of new

streamflow within acceptable operating criteria over a

10-year term is also needed for realistic evaluation of

environmental impacts and assessment of benefits. Proposing,

planning, and operating a multi-area demonstration project

is expected to contribute to a dedicated cooperative

effort to resolve the social, legal, and public pOlicy

;

questions facing possible future weather modification

'.

in the Colorado River Basin.

3
