.

.

Periods. A Potential Seeding Period malY be longer or shorter than a
STORM but will usually be shorter because more substantial clouds are
generally' required for seeding than for research. The existence of a
STORM will be jointly determined by the Field Director and the Field
Scientist. Neither of them will be involved in the determination of a
Potential Seeding Period. That is the responsibility of the State of
Utah operational seeding project.
In view of potentially simultaneous STORMS and Potential Seeding
Periods some kinds of communication will be purposely restricted between

operational project personnel in Salt Lake City and research program

personnel in Beaver. There will be no communication whatsoever as to

whether clouds in the research area do or do not meet the operational

project seeding criteria. Weather information and forecasts will be
provided to the research program by the NAWC operational project control
center in Salt Lake City but without comment as to any implications for
Potential Seeding Periods. Adamsville rawinsonde launch decisions by
either the operational project or researclh program will not be revealed
to the other group. These steps will help ensure that research data

are gathered in an unbiased manner.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

-13-
