.

3. Field organization, work schedule, and personnel requirements

a. Field organization. The field organization chart (Figure 3)

reflects the cooperative nature of the Utah / NOAA weather modification

program. Specifically, the operational cloud seeding project and the

research program share thE~ rawinsonde operation, and the operational

project provides forecast information to the research program.

The field research program has three parts. The. first part is

called "Research Support Se'rvices" and is coordinated by Mr. H. Robert

Swart of North American WE!ather Consultants. It includes launches of

rawinsondes, operation of a meteorological office, servicing of the pre-

cipitation gages, and certain logistics matters. Research Support

Services are discussed in more detail in Sections 4 and 8. The second

.part of the research program is also coordinated by Mr. Swart. It con-

sists of Seeding Material Delivery Experiments based on tracing of

sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and tracking of constant volume balloons.

These experiments are descl-ibed in Section 5 and correspond to one of

the main scientific objectives of the program listed in the

Introduction. The third part of the research program is coordinated by

Dr. Alex Long of the Desert Research Institute. It consists of Cloud

Physics and Kinematics Expe, oiments. These experiments are described in

Section 6 and correspond to the other main scientific objective of the

research program.

Some coordination of thE~ Seeding Material Delivery Experiments with

the remainder of the resealrch program will be required. Such co-

ordination will be effected bEitween Mr. Swart and Dr. Long. Mr. Swart

will ensure that appropriate rawinsonde and other meteorological support

.

.

.

..

.

.

.

.

.

.

-14-
