Erie customers may call (303) 441-3278 extension 25 or register online at
the following website: http://www.erieco.gov /index.cfm?objectID=9077 AEE6-D612-
00A6- A25269F A67BEEC34&target= http: / / www.conservationcenter.org/

2.6.3 Remote Readers

Erie offers a remote reader service to all customers who contact the town concerned
that their water bill is abnormally high. Erie staff will temporarily provide the
customer with a remote reader. This remote reader records the amount of water being
used and can detect leaks.

2.6.4 Public Education Program

Erie initiated a program to educate customers on water supply, water rates, and the
importance of water conservation in 2002. A variety of media/venues have been used
to distribute information to customers. These include:

. Informative and Understandable Water Bill- Erie bills its customers based on the
volume of water used. The water bill shows customers the amount of water used
per month and also the amount of water used the previous year for the same
month. This enables customers to compare their water usage on a monthly basis.
The water bill also provides a phone number for customers to call for questions
concerning their bill. Erie's website also has an interactive demonstration
explaining each item on the water bill.

. Website - Erie's website provides a variety of information regarding water.
Information is provided on water related infrastructure projects, water rates, water
restrictions, as well as the water wasting ordinance. Background/ contact
information is also available on the water audit program and websites that give
additional information on water conservation. See http://www.ci.erie.co.us/.

. Elementary School Education - For each of the past 3 years, Erie has provided a
3-day water education program to fourth and fifth graders. Topics include:
equipment safety, water treatment, stormwater, and water conservation.

DRAFT

2-12

\\DENSVR1\PROJECTS\9228 - ERIE\CONSERVATION PLAN\REPORT\DRAFT PRIOR TO PUBLIC REVIEW\CONNIE FORMATTED\SECTION 2.DOC
