delivery point in the Imperial Valley. Operational, or distribution losses as they are generally
referred to, occur due to three major conditions: seepage from canals, operational discharges
(spills), and evaporation losses. For the purpose of this study, distribution losses will be lID
losses that occur within the distribution system downstream of Pilot Knob. Losses between
Imperial Dam (Station 60) and Pilot Knob are almost entirely offset by return flow credits.

Table III.CA-l summarizes these losses. Distribution losses downstream of Pilot Knob have
averaged approximately 13.3 percent over the past eight years.
llLC5 Current Total Water Use within llD
The current total water use of the District consists of the following eight major components:

1. Crop consumptive use,
2. Crop leaching use,
3. Reclamation leaching use,
4. M&I water use,
5. Tailwater,
6. Miscellaneous non-agriculture water use, and
7. Operational water use
8. Conserved water transferred to other users but charged to IID.
