Operational, or distribution losses as they are generally
referred to, occur due to three major conditions: seepage from canals, operational discharges
(spills), and evaporation losses. For the purpose of this study, distribution losses will be lID
losses that occur within the distribution system downstream of Pilot Knob. Losses between
Imperial Dam (Station 60) and Pilot Knob are almost entirely offset by return flow credits.

Table III.CA-l summarizes these losses. Distribution losses downstream of Pilot Knob have
averaged approximately 13.3 percent over the past eight years.

ThbkllLC~lD~"wuoonS~remLo~~

IID Volume at Pilot Knob Total Deliveries Distribution System Percent
Year (Acre-Feet) to All Users Losses Downstream Operational
(Acre-Feet) of Pilot Knob Requirement
(Acre-Feet) (Acre-Feet)
1987 2,765,127 2,386,120 379,007 13.7
1988 2,948,800 2,555,705 393,095 13.3
1989 3,020,339 2,642,972 377,367 12.5
1990 3,055,563 2,680,912 374,651 12.3
1991 2,899,082 2,520,160 378,922 13.1
1992 2,574,805 2,178,770 396,035 15.4
1993 2,773,436 2,404,454 368,982 13.3
1994 3,045,566 2,652,786 392,780 12.9
Average 2,885,340 2,502,735 382,605 13.3 %

Source: On-Farm Irrigation Efficiency, August 1993, by Boyle Engmeermg CorporatIon. 1993 and 1994 from
Boyle's updated Table 6-1 , September 1995.

llLC5 Current Total Water Use within llD
The current total water use of the District consists of the following eight major components:

1.
