<br />Summer inflow into Flaming Gorge Reservoir was much above average. Unregulated inflow <br />was 163 and 144 percent of average in July and August respectively. <br /> <br />Flaming Gorge reservoir reached a peak elevation of 6037.9 feet (2.1 feet from full) on August <br />14. The last time the reservoir was this full was in 1984. The water surface <br />elevation is now falling with the current level being about 6037 feet. <br /> <br />Open forum discussions on Flaming Gorge operations have been taking place at meetings of the <br />"Flaming Gorge Working Group". The next Working Group meeting is scheduled for September <br />29 at 7 pm in Vernal, UT. For more information on the Working Group, contact Ed Vidmar at <br />801-379-1000. <br /> <br />ASPINALL - August unregulated inflow into Blue Mesa was 62,000 acre-feet or about 94 <br />percent of average. Precipitation during the month was recorded at only 75 percent of normal. <br />Currently the inflow rate into Blue Mesa Reservoir is about 700 cfs and reservoir releases are <br />averaging about 1,550 cfs. Blue Mesa's present elevation is 7500.32 feet which corresponds to a <br />storage content of 664,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />Releases from Crystal Dam are currently 1,700 cfs. The Gunnison Diversion Tunnel is diverting <br />about 1,000 cfs from,the river resulting in a river flow of 700 cfs through the Black Canyon of <br />the Gunnison. Crystal releases are projected to remain at about this same level through the <br />remainder of September and into October. <br /> <br />The "Aspinall Unit Working Group" meeting was held August 20, 1998, at Blue Mesa <br />Reservoir's Elk Creek Visitors Center. At this meeting, review of last Spring's operations, and <br />plans for late summer and fall operations were discussed. These meetings are open forum <br />discussions on the Aspinall Unit operations with many interested groups participating. Anyone <br />needing further information about these meetings should contact Ed Warner in the Grand <br />Junction Area Office at (970) 248-0654. . <br /> <br />NA VA10 - August unregulated inflow into Navajo Reservoir was about 33,000 acre-feet or <br />approximately 85 percent of average. Precipitation in August was 74 percent of normal for the <br />San Juan basin above Bluff. The current reservoir inflow is about 500 cfs and the reservoir water <br />surface elevation is at 6063.81 feet which corresponds to a reservoir content of about 1,397,000 <br />acre-feet. Releases from the dam are currently set at 600 cfs and will remain at this level through <br />the fall and winter months. <br /> <br />Anyone needing further information about the daily operations of Navajo Reservoir should <br />contact Dan Emerson or Rege Leach in the Durango Office at (970) 385-6500. <br /> <br />Glen Canyon Dam - Unregulated inflows to Lake Powell were about 121 percent of normal in <br />August. The National Weather Service September 8 forecast update for the next three months <br />inflow was for a return to normal inflows. <br />
