FORECASTING, SUSPENSION

A. FORECASTING SERVICES
A Bureau contractor will forecast weather from the AFO (Auburn Forecast
Office). The Bureau provides an Alden weatherfax suitable for receiving NWS
(National Weather Service) products on the Zephyr, Inc. satellite downlink. A
UPI Unifax recorder for the receipt of NWS satellite imagery is also provided
by the Bureau. The GOES-TAP satellite circuit will be re-initiated between
the Redwood City Satell ite Field Service Station and Auburn. The contractor
provides a satellite animation device capable of displaying 12 separate images
of satellite data in either visible or infrared or 6 of each. The contractor
also provides Service A and C data via a satellite link through Zephyr, Inc.
A remote scope from the Sheri dan radar will be located in Auburn and wi 11
receive a 20 elevation scan every 5 minutes when the Skywater radar is
operating. The forecast office will be provided with UHF and VHF (aviation)
radios for communication with aircraft and ground crews, as necessary.

On October 1, the forecast office will begin operations with all scheduled
data collected and posted to assist all project personnel in equipment setup
and maintenance. This arrangement will continue until November 1, 1986, and
again from January 9 through February 1, 1987.

Between November 1, 1986, and January 9, 1987, forecast services wi 11 be
requi red to support all project experiments. The office wi 11 be closed on
November 27, December 24 to December 28, 1986, inclusive, and January 1, 1987.

Because of the shortened field season and the requirement to conduct ground
seeding on a 24-hour a day 7-day a week basis, modifications to past opera-
tions will be required.

II-I
