This will be discussed
further in a later section.

C. Jackson Creek ObservatorY

A high elevation observatory (1951 m) will be established near
the Jackson Creek (JCC) precipitation gauge site. This site will
be used to monitor seeding effects within the target area and to
monitor for the presence of the tracer SF6 during seeding
operations. The observing equipment will consist of a dual
channel microwave radiometer, a ground microphysics laboratory,
and a continuous SF6 detector. These observational tools will be
run simultaneously. A two man crew will be necessary to operate
all the equipment.

1.0 Microphvsics Laboratorv

The microphysics equipment will include:

a) an aspirated PMS (Particle Measuring System) 2D-
cloud probe used to record hundreds of two-dimensional
snow crystal images per second. Images are recorded to
magnetic tape which can be processed to determine
crystal sizes and concentrations. Meteorological
variables of state are recorded every ten seconds. The
data tapes will be processed by USBR.

~

22
