' Town of Bennett
Feasibility Study
' amount of sediment inside of the well. The well was color videoed on September 27, 2007.
' JWC reviewed the well video and concluded that the likely cause of excessive sediment in the
well was a hole in the casing at approximately 189 feet and 192 feet in depth, above the
screened interval. Below the 192 foot interval, the well casing contained large amounts of mud.
' The screened interval of the well showed clogged screens and deteriorating casing. It was
determined that the well could not be repaired or salvaged.
' ALTERNATIVES
The preferred alternative for the Town of Bennett is to re -drill Well 5 within 200 feet of the
' existing location. The well has been a critical and reliable part of the Bennett water supply
system for over 34 years. The well will be re- drilled using modern techniques and materials, but
' the completion details will replicate those of the existing well, since it is a pre -213 well. The
Colorado Division of Water Resources will issue a permit to drill a replacement well within 200
feet of the existing well, and no additional legal actions will be required.
' There are no social or environmental impacts known to be associated with this alternative, since
the well will be replaced within 200 feet of the existing location.
' INSTITUTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
' The permit application to re -drill Well 5 was submitted to the State Engineers Office on
November 13, 2007. Since this is a replacement well, using the same infrastructure as the old
' well, no other permits are required. The bidding documents for the bids for the re- drilling will be
published November 23, 2007 and award of the project to the drilling contractor will be done at
' the December 18, 2007 Board meeting.
DESCRIPTION OF WATER RIGHTS
The Town of Bennett relies entirely on the Denver Basin aquifers to meet water demands. As
' previously discussed in the description of the physical supply system, the NWS has six ground
water wells completed into Denver Basin aquifers and the SWS has five wells completed into
' Denver Basin aquifers.
