Water Supply Reserve Account ? Grant Application Form
Form Revised May 2007
_______________________________________
1c. Personnel - The staff at the Arkansas Valley Research Center (CSU AVRC) perform all crop production
activities. The oversight and interpretation of ET data from the lysimeter will involve a team of scientists from
CSU and USDA-ARS (see table of technical consultants and the appended qualifications of Drs. Bartolo and
Berrada). The initial operation of the lysimeter requires employment of skilled personnel who are knowledgeable
about the intricacies of the lysimeter installation and operation. A research associate has been employed by the
Arkansas Valley Research Center (CSU AVRC) and has been instrumental in the successful installation and
current activities of calibrating lysimeter instrumentation. This position is only partially funded for FY08.
1d. Deliverables ? The data obtained from the weighing lysimeter are used for two purposes.
a.
Direct measurement of the water use throughout the growing season. After each crop is studied,
Arkansas Valley specific information will be available on consumptive use.
b.
Calculation of crop coefficients for crops grown in the Arkansas Valley. The crop coefficient
(Kc) varies with time as the crop emerges, develops a canopy, and reaches maturity. The crop
coefficients are used in conjunction with the Penman-Monteith equation to compute ET for different
locations and growing conditions. The generalized relationship between Kc and crop growth stage is
shown below (from FAO Irrigation and drainage paper 56).
8
