Water Supply Reserve Account ? Grant Application Form
Form Revised May 2007
_______________________________________
The above photo shows the lysimeter and the associated weather instrumentation after harvesting of a test crop
(oats) during the 2007 growing season. The scale in the lysimeter is connected to a electronic datalogger
resulting in continuous measurements of the weight of soil monolith. An example of the data collected from the
test lysimeter for September 3-7, 2007 is shown below and it represents the weight loss of water from lysimeter.
After calibration, the load cell readings are converted to weight of water lost from the lysimeter by evaporation
and crop use; the standard deviation of the weight measurements is <0.02%. The amount of consumptive water
use is equal to the weight change recorded. The lysimeter is constructed in such a manner that any water
percolating through the soil profile is collected.
7
