Castle Pines North Metropolitan District
Application for Water Efficiency Grant

2.0 Water Conservation

2.1 Historical Conservation Water Savings

The District began to implement a variety of conservation measures in 2003. Tllese
include retrofit incentives, watering restrictions, public education on water
conservatioll measures, and a change to a tiered budget water rate structure in 2004~
Because the conservation measures have not been in place for long, coupled with the
wet conditions observed in 2004; it is difficult to precisely quantify the water savings
associated with the Districtls conservation programs. Table 3 provides estimated
annual water savings from 2003 to 2006 for conservation measures where savings
could be quantified.

T bl 3 E t. t d A

IWt s ·

a e S 1m3 e nnua a er aVlngs
2003 2004 2005 2006
Savings Savings Savings Savings
Number (1000 Number (1 000 Number (1000 Number (1000
Retrofit Rebate Rebates gal/yr) Rebates gal/yr) Rebates 9 al/yr) Rebates gal/yr)
Low $100 3 15 3 30 12 90 15 165
Flow
Toilets
Low $125 7 38 56 344 17 437 58 753
Usage
Washers
I rrigati 0 n $75 13 137 15 294 10 399 9 494
Clock
Rain $100 9 47 17 136 2 147 3 163
Sensor
Total 32 237 91 804 41 1 ,073 85 1,575

2.2 Water Conservation Plan Goals
The District1s 2006 Water Conservation Plan established the following goals:

1. Provide a water savings target of an additional 175 to 220 AFY based on 2003
water demand patterns (16 to 20 gpcd based on projected population at
buildout) through existing and additional conservation measures and programs.

2.. Select conservation measures and programs that target outdoor irrigation and
customers of high use. Target customers include the following:

. Residential (indoor and outdoor usage)

. District irrigation of parks and open space

. HOA irrigation

CDIVI

7

C:'DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\SLACKCA\OESKTOP\CPNGRANlIWATER E.FFICIENCY GAANT pAOGAAM APPllCA TfON .DOC
